Weekend Trips from Manchester: Chester and Conwy Castle

EEC Team | 21st October 2026 |

One of the best things about studying English in Manchester is how much is close by. On our weekend trips, students practise their English outside the classroom and see a different side of Britain. Here are two of the most popular destinations.

Chester

Chester is about an hour from Manchester and feels like stepping back in time. Students walk along the city walls, the most complete city walls in Britain, first built by the Romans, visit the cathedral and explore the Rows, the famous two-level shopping streets with black-and-white timber buildings.

Conwy Castle, North Wales

Conwy is a small walled town on the North Wales coast, built around a huge 13th-century castle. It is a great day out: climb the towers, walk the town walls, look out over the estuary and try some Welsh treats in the town.

Why trips help your English

  • You use English in real situations: buying tickets, asking for directions, ordering food
  • You learn new vocabulary about history, places and culture
  • You make friends with students from other countries

Trips and activities change through the year, so ask us what is planned for your dates.
