Social Activities
Join in with our social programme, improve your English outside of the classroom and make the most of your free time in Manchester!
Our trips give you the chance to explore life in and around Manchester. Some trips are free, for others there’s a small charge for transport. We provide a regular calendar of events and encourage students to take part. If an activity or trip involves more than one under-18-year-old participant, student to staff ratio of 1:5 must be maintained.
Below is a sample of the activities we run at Express English College.
Every Tuesday evening, we organise an exciting sports event for all our students. Sports include football in a local outdoor football pitch (Location: Powerleague Ardwick); tennis in the beautiful surroundings of Alexandra park. These activities are free of charge. Just register your interest with our Welfare Officer.
Every Thursday afternoon, we organise trips to places of local interest throughout Manchester and the surrounding areas. Previous trips include: Etihad Stadium, Printworks Arcade and Cinema, The National Gallery of Manchester, The Alex Ferguson Stadium, ‘Escape Room’, mini-golf etc. Activities are free of charge where possible (except for occasional small entry fees/transport costs).
Students and teachers take full advantage of the excellent entertainment facilities offered in the school cafe/lounge area. Games include snooker, cards, video games, chess and a selection of board games. There is also a selection of books, for those who would like to spend a quieter moment.

Our City Trips are organised by our partner, Smile Adventure. Further information about the city tour visits can be found here: Home – Smile Adventures.
Enjoy a day of paintballing in Eccles Forest! You can take part in up to six different games with a pizza break included. If you come as a group we will ensure you play with your friends as much as possible – or perhaps you’d prefer to play against them!
Who will win on this trip to Laser Quest? Our students love this trip. It is a great way to relax, have some serious fun and perhaps be on the winning team. Here at Express English College we take pride in building strong teams with others. Team games are also a great way of communicating with others, so you’ll improve your English at the same time!
