Autumn in Manchester

Now that the  chilly days are coming, EEC would like to give you some ideas to get the most out of your free time if you are new to the city of Manchester and you haven´t had time yet to discover its beautiful hidden corners, meet its welcoming people and enjoy their traditional dishes and drinks. Whilst you are a student in our English language school in Manchester, you will experience life!

Outdoor Manchester

Explore different parks around the city: You will feel like Red Riding Hood walking between green pines, brown    chestnut trees and yellow oaks.  We highly recommend visiting Alexandra Park, Fletcher Moss Park, Heaton Park, Dunham Massey, or Etherow Country Park.
They are perfect for picnics, boat trips, family walks and nature lovers. If you are lucky, you will find some elusive squirrels, deer, donkeys or cows.

Afternoon Tea

The perfect plan for a rainy day, is to have the Afternoon tea in a cosy cafe like the Richm

Richmond Tea Rooms, where you will feel Like a Character from Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll or Annie´s. If you are looking for something more modern, you can enjoy a breath-taking view of the city at 20 Stories, The Ivy or Cloud 23 (The Hilton Hotel in Deansgate). All of them are in the city centre.
Just in case you don´t like tea, how about a Pumpkin spiced Latte? This vegetable is the main vegetable of this season. There are a wide variety of dishes you can try with this, from soups to hamburgers and don´t forget the amazing pies and cakes.

 Shopping

If you enjoy shopping, we recommend you visit the Trafford centre, where you will find luxurious brands such as Michael Kors, Ted Baker or Coach. There are also areas with families in mind, like Legoland, with a play area and creche and fun buggies. There is also a cinema and a wide offering of restaurants and cafes, among them the famous burger franchise Five Guys.
You can find, more boutiques and classic branded shops in the city centre like Barbour, Mulberry, Armani or Louis Vuitton.
Daytrips to enjoy this season: the Peak and the Lake District are both must-sees. You can enjoy different hiking
routes, beautiful landscapes, national heritage, proper country pubs and loads of fun. Visit villages like Windermere, Bowness or Buxton, shop in their flea markets and enjoy their traditional dishes like Bakewell tart, Derbyshire oat cakes or Hartington Stilton Cheese.

History and Culture

If you are culture and history vulture, we recommend these spots in the city: Castlefield and its canals, the John Rylands library and Cheetham’s library where Marx & Engels wrote part of the Communist Manifesto, The Science & Industry Museum, Manchester University Campus.

Football in ManchesterFootball

If you are a football lover, you cannot miss the Old Trafford Tour, or taking a picture of the Etihad Stadium, or a visit to the National Football Museum.  A football lover’s dream is to watch live football at the Theatre of Dreams in Old Trafford, if you are supporter of Manchester United. Or if you prefer, at the Etihad if you are fan of the Blues. Don´t forget to buy your tickets in advance.

Food & Drink

If you are a foodie these are the places you cannot miss:  Australasia, Tattu, Cloud 23 or Mana if you prefer international dishes, but if you are looking for British cuisine you definitely must go to Dako

ta Bar & Grill. You won´t regret it! They will work for a perfect date or for dinner with friends or family.
Last, but not least, whilst doing an IELTS course or General English Course in Manchester, you will realise that Manchester is the city of live music. Groups like The Stone Roses and Oasis were born here and this vibe can still be felt all around the Northern Quarter. If you like Jazz, you have Matt & Fred’s. If you like Indie, street music and rock you have Gorillaz and if you like songwriters and pop singers you have Night & Day.
